An Investment Bond is usually a packaged investment product that offers the advantage of being straightforward in terms of administration and management. A Bond is a wrapper through which one can invest in a very wide range of collective funds which provide you with the opportunity to targeting growth or income or indeed a combination of the two.
Although they are classed as life assurance policies they will only have a minimal amount of life cover – i.e. 101% of the policy value at death. One of the benefits is that they allow tax deferral on withdrawals from the policy and can be used in effective tax planning, particularly for higher rate taxpayers.
Investment Bonds can be suitable for investing within a trust as part of a strategy to mitigate Inheritance Tax, the settler can benefit from the capital through a series of loans which will be repaid by the estate on death, in the meantime all growth will be outside the deceased estate.
